We currently have vacancies for these instruments:
- double bass
Our next main concert is at Hammersmith Town Hall and features music by Rachmaninov, Sibelius and Grieg. We will also be performing at St John’s Smith Square on 9 March as part of composer Stephen Montague’s 75th birthday event.
We welcome new players of around Grade 8 standard or above. Our current players range from amateurs playing at a professional standard, to those who have taken up their instrument again after a few years off. If in doubt, just get in touch!
We need all of our players to make a real commitment to rehearsals and concerts, so please have a look at the Commitment and Attendance section on the members’ page to see what our expectations are. New members of the orchestra join us on a trial basis, with membership confirmed on completion of a successful first term.
Our rehearsal schedule is on the Members’ page.
Rehearsals are in Hammersmith on Monday evenings for nine weeks before each concert (except for bank holidays when we rehearse on Tuesdays). The rehearsal schedule normally includes sectional rehearsals with coaching from well-established tutors.
We usually rehearse in Hammersmith at Novotel London West (entrance on Chalk Hill Road, off Shortlands, W6 8DR). The nearest Tube stations are Hammersmith and Barons Court.
Getting hereBy public transport, the Novotel is under 20 minutes from Barnes, Chelsea, Chiswick, Earl’s Court, Fulham, Hammersmith, Kensington and Shepherds Bush. And it’s less than 30 minutes from Acton, Ealing, Kew, Notting Hill, Putney, Roehampton, Richmond, Southfields, the City, the West End, Vauxhall, Hounslow and Wimbledon.
