Tom Evans

Tom is Assistant Director of Music at St Paul’s School, a position he has held since 2009. Alongside his teaching career, Tom is also a freelance violinist and composer. He was educated at The Purcell School of Music, Royal College of Music and St John’s College, Cambridge. He also has a PhD in composition from King’s College London where his supervisor was Dr Silvina Milstein.

As a violinist Tom was an inaugural member of Southbank Sinfonia and for several years led both the orchestra of Opera East Productions and the Orchestra of the City. He has performed concerti by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Mozart with various amateur orchestras, as well as Dvorak’s Romance and his own piece for violin and orchestra, Cantilena . He has led Fulham Symphony Orchestra since March 2009.

Tom’s compositions have been performed across the UK in venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the Aldeburgh Festival, and the Jacqueline du Pré concert hall in Oxford. His Six Pieces for String Quartet was premiered by the Tippett Quartet at the 2013 Barnes Music Festival.
